Ariake

'Ariake' is a variety of Japanese Maple discovered at the foot of Mount Ariake, Azumino, Nagano Prefecture.  It is known for its unique leaf shape and it's brilliant red autumn coloration.  It was named by Emperor Showa, Hirohito (1901-1989).

It is rare to these 'Ariake' in the nursery trade, even within Japan.
